Southern Blvd.

“Southern Blvd” also known as the Funkstown Bypass may be in jeopardy. Anyone who lives in Funkstown or travels through the town knows how much we need the bypass. This is a county project that would not only benefit the town residents but also all of the commuters and the county as a whole. Please contact the County Commissioners and let them know that we as voters want and support the project. We need your voice to keep this in front of the commissioners to get Southern Blvd out of the planning stage and make it a reality! The email address below will allow you to send an email to all of the commissioners and their staff.

Toys for Tots

Boys from Funkstown Cub Pack 23 and Boy Scout Troop 23 were looking to do yet another project for the community. Their sponsor, the Funkstown American Legion post 211 thought it would be great if the boys would help them collect toys for the Toys for Tots drive that the U.S. Marines are doing. At that point the wheels got to turning. The scouts thought it would be great to say thanks for all of the support that they got on their popcorn sales with Pack 23 having the largest sales at of all the Packs and Troop 23 having the largest sales of all the Troops. The boys volunteered to take some of their hard earned money that would normal go to their activity’s and go out and buy toys to give to the Toys for Tots. The Scouts set aside $750.00 ( that was $50.00 for each boy who attended to spend on toys) and teamed up with Walmart who gave them $75.00 off the final sales receipt price. While the boys where buying toys many people wanted to know what was going on and after we explained the plan other shoppers and parents started giving us more money for the adventure.  Some of them used the “This is what I want for Christmas”and others used the “I have this and this is fun” approach on how to pick out toys. Once we where complete we had bought over $1000.00 worth of fun for the Toy for Tots program. All the boys felt that this is the right thing to do to help another less lucky child for Christmas, to date they are the only Scouts that have spent their own money for The Toys for Tots program.
