WASHINGTON COUNTY ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC RELATIONS

The Board of County Commissioners of Washington County, Maryland (BCC) announces Sarah J. Lankford as the new Director of Public Relations and Community Affairs for Washington County Government.
Effective July 1st, Ms. Lankford will head the Public Relations Department of the County which includes Public Information Officer Norman Bassett.  This public relations position was approved by the BCC as part of the county’s restructuring plan that was announced in March, and that saved the County an estimated $500,000.  Her current position as the Marketing Specialist for the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission has been reclassified to be used more globally in this capacity to disseminate public information to the citizens.  Her background gives her a substantial knowledge base of media outlets, State contacts, communication techniques, and community needs in Washington County.
Under the direction of the County Administrator Gregory Murray, Ms. Lankford will be responsible for the County’s communications and community outreach efforts, and will be the spokesperson for Washington County Government.
“Sarah is a wonderful addition to the County’s senior leadership team, and we are excited to see her in the new role,” said Murray. “Her experience in marketing and public relations, including website and social media strategies, will help Washington County Government reach more of its citizens and open up additional lines of communication.”
Ms. Lankford graduated Magna Cum Laude from Robert Morris University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and is now completing her MBA at Frostburg State University in Hagerstown.  Ms. Lankford grew up in Washington County and currently resides in Funkstown.
