Funkstown Lions Club Shrimp Dinner Night

The Funkstown Lions Club is having a shrimp feed for ages 21 and up. It will be held on Feburary 5th and they will begin serving at 6:00pm in the lower level of the Funkstown Fire Company. The menu will be Steamed Shrimp and Cold Cuts with Lions Milk with a price of only $17.00

Holiday Schedule

The office is closed both Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.
Trash pick up will be on Friday after Thanksgiving.

For Christmas and New Years the schedule is as follows:
Christmas Eve office closes at 12:00 noon and closed Monday, December 27th.
New Year’s Eve office closes at 12:00 noon and closed Monday, January 3rd.

2010 Christmas Balls

The 2010 Christmas balls are now in stock.  This is the first ball by the artist Mike Smith. It features St Paul’s Lutheran Church Cira. 1900. The price is $7.50 each, including the display box, and will be available at the town hall. Box sets available in limited quantity. The price for the balls from the former years is $6.50 each.

Halloween

Funkstown’s Halloween parade will be Oct. 28.
The parade will feature bands from South Hagerstown High and E. Russell Hicks Middle schools,Hicks’ choir might also participate.
The parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Chestnut Street, behind Town Hall. It will progress to High Street, then Baltimore Street, ending at the Funkstown American Legion parking lot.
Following the parade will be a free party and costume contest for town residents only. The costume contest is for elementary school-age children. There will be prizes for winners and each child will receive a gift bag.
Trick-or-treating will be held in Funkstown from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 29.

Character Counts Week 10/17-23/2010

The Town of Funkstown issued a proclamation in support of the Character Counts initiative.
The town declares the week starting the third Sunday in October, annually, to be Character Counts Week in town. This year, it will start Sunday the 17th.
The proclamation calls for residents to embrace the “Six Pillars of Character” — trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

Wagon train will stay at the community park in 2011

he National Pike Festival will be coming back to the Funkstown Community Park. Town council members voted Monday night to let the wagon train use part of the park for an overnight encampment on May 21, 2011. Jamie Baker, co-coordinator for the festival, asked to use the part of the park off Robert Kline Way, as well as one of the pavilions and the restrooms. Jamie advised that the wagons should arrive around 4:00 or 5:00 pm that evening. Town officials asked event organizers to make sure they clean up the area when they are done. He said there might be some loss of grass. The council said that they where glad to have the wagon train back in town since the town residents love to watch the horses and wagons. The Funkstown Mayor and Council and Staff would like to extend to all families a warm, safe, and happy holiday season.

FUNKSTOWN RESIDENTS – PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE TO THE WASTE COLLECTION SCHEDULE:

Household trash collection is ONLY picked up on THURSDAYS.  Normal household trash items shall be set at the curbside no earlier than 4:00 p.m. before collection.  Collection time for the company will begin between 2:00 – 4:00 a.m.

Yard waste collection is picked up on Tuesdays, and will continue until the last Tuesday in November.  Yard waste shall be set at the curbside no earlier than 4:00 p.m. before collection.  Collection time for the company will begin between 2:00 – 4:00 a.m.

Christmas trees will be collected on two prescheduled days set for Tuesday, January 4, 2011, and Tuesday, January 11, 2011.

October 28, 2010 – Funkstown Parade starts at 6:00 p.m. (lineup 5:30 p.m.) on Chestnut Street (rear of Town Hall).  Following the parade, a Halloween Costume Contest will take place at the Funkstown American Legion.  All Funkstown children are invited to attend.

October 29, 2010 – Funkstown Trick or Treat is scheduled from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Funkstown residents who wish to participate, please turn your porch light on.  Trick or Treaters should remember the following safety tips:  Never go out alone.  Stay in well lighted areas.  Parents should check the treats, and HAVE FUN!  Trick or Treat bags are available for the children free at Town Hall.

December 10, 2010 – Old Tyme Christmas Celebration from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Events will include wagon rides to historic sites, Christmas entertainment, luminary display, house decoration contest, and children’s activities.  There will be free refreshments at the Town Hall, and the shops will remain open throughout the evening.

Please remember when walking your pets to carry your Pooper Scooper.  This includes walking your pets at the Funkstown Community Park.  This is an Ordinance, and will be enforced.

The Funkstown Ordinance requires that snow and ice shall be removed from all sidewalks within the Town on the same day of the cessation of any fall of snow, sleet or freezing rain or within the first ten hours of daylight after the cessation of any such fall, whichever period is longer.

Please remember when filing your Maryland Tax Return, Form 502, put FUNKSTOWN in the City, town or taxing area box.

Fire Company has open house

October 9th was the open house for the Funkstown Fire Company. They where giving rides, spraying hoses, experiencing smoke filled houses, and looking at the latest in life flight equipment along with a vast array of other things. For those of you who did not attend you really missed a fun event. Check out the pictures tab for photos from the event.

Olde Tyme Christmas Shirts

Olde Tyme Christmas Committee has authorized shirts and they are available in M, L, and XL in both Green and Red with the Town Seal on the front. Shirts where provided by the Friends of Funkstown and all proceeds will go to offset the cost of the event. The cost per shirt is only $8.00 each.

New Trash Removal Time

Set your trash out Wednesday night and they will pick it up Thursday morning. The lawn waste is still picked up on on Tuesday morning so set it out Monday night. By going to 1 day a week for trash pick up we were able to balance the budget for this year. Thanks for all your patience during this transition.
