The Day in the Park/ Battle of Funkstown was a huge success. The park was alive with over 4000 people over all. The Fire Company had no problem feeding all of the people that came through the lines with the Lions Club providing the French fries. Now for those that could not cool off from the heat of the day the St Paul’s Church was service snowballs. Rose Gaver did an excellent job finding the right vendors for this event. We had everything from soap, and sewing to books and building and the deals where has hot as the weather. All of the children enjoyed the kid’s activities from slides to spin art with the help of Jerry Walker. The 97th Regimental String Band was seen playing in many locations through out the park and in front of Hudson House Antiques before the street battle. Everyone was very delighted with the music and we even had dancing Saturday night. For those of you that missed the fireworks all we can say is WOW what a show. The battlefields where filled with over 170 re-enactors, 4 cannons and 3 horses and at times it was hard to tell it was just a re-enactment. The authenticity was amazing with one of the cannons being an original 1861 piece. The Fire Company also took care of the safety and EMS items for the event which ran like clockwork. Mark your calendars for July 16, 17 -2011 for the next Day in the Park since it is quickly becoming the event that you don’t want to miss with something for everyone. Also please make sure that you thank the people that made this event a happen because with out them this would not be the successful event that it is…..Rose Gaver, Jerry Walker, John Phillips, Bobby Rodgers, and Rich Gaver.

On Sunday May 30th around 11:00am a wreath was laid at the Monument of the Soldier and a new monument will be dedicated at the Town War Memorial. This new monument will fill the gap in the names that where not covered on the original monument that was installed many years ago for Funkstown residents that have served in the wars for the freedom of this country. Please show your support for these great men, some of which have paid the greatest price for our country on this day of remembrance. Check out the pictures in the photo tab.
