Wagon train will stay at the community park in 2011

he National Pike Festival will be coming back to the Funkstown Community Park. Town council members voted Monday night to let the wagon train use part of the park for an overnight encampment on May 21, 2011. Jamie Baker, co-coordinator for the festival, asked to use the part of the park off Robert Kline Way, as well as one of the pavilions and the restrooms. Jamie advised that the wagons should arrive around 4:00 or 5:00 pm that evening. Town officials asked event organizers to make sure they clean up the area when they are done. He said there might be some loss of grass. The council said that they where glad to have the wagon train back in town since the town residents love to watch the horses and wagons. Please check out the photo tab for pictures of the wagon train that went through the town in 2010 and their website at www.nationalpikefestival.org.

Fire Company has open house

October 9th was the open house for the Funkstown Fire Company. They where giving rides, spraying hoses, experiencing smoke filled houses, and looking at the latest in life flight equipment along with a vast array of other things. For those of you who did not attend you really missed a fun event. Check out the pictures tab for photos from the event.

New Trash Removal Time

Set your trash out Wednesday night and they will pick it up Thursday morning. The lawn waste is still picked up on on Tuesday morning so set it out Monday night. By going to 1 day a week for trash pick up we were able to balance the budget for this year. Thanks for all your patience during this transition.

Day in the Park / Battle of Funkstown Success

The Day in the Park/ Battle of Funkstown was a huge success. The park was alive with over 4000 people over all. The Fire Company had no problem feeding all of the people that came through the lines with the Lions Club providing the French fries. Now for those that could not cool off from the heat of the day the St Paul’s Church was service snowballs.  Rose Gaver did an excellent job finding the right vendors for this event. We had everything from soap, and sewing to books and building and the deals where has hot as the weather. All of the children enjoyed the kid’s activities from slides to spin art with the help of Jerry Walker. The 97th Regimental String Band was seen playing in many locations through out the park and in front of Hudson House Antiques before the street battle. Everyone was very delighted with the music and we even had dancing Saturday night. For those of you that missed the fireworks all we can say is WOW what a show. The battlefields where filled with over 170 re-enactors, 4 cannons and 3 horses and at times it was hard to tell it was just a re-enactment. The authenticity was amazing with one of the cannons being an original 1861 piece. The Fire Company also took care of the safety and EMS items for the event which ran like clockwork. Mark your calendars for July 16, 17 -2011 for the next Day in the Park since it is quickly becoming the event that you don’t want to miss with something for everyone. Also please make sure that you thank the people that made this event a happen because with out them this would not be the successful event that it is…..Rose Gaver, Jerry Walker, John Phillips, Bobby Rodgers, and Rich Gaver.

Please show your support for these great men, some of which have paid the greatest price for our country on this day of remembrance. Check out the pictures in the photo tab.
